FUTO Postgraduate Admission into Full-time/Part-time Programmes 2021/2022

The Federal University of Technology Owerri FUTO Postgraduate Admission into Full-time/Part-time Programmes 2021/2022 Academic Session. All applications for the postgraduate courses will close by February 28, 2022.

FUTO Postgraduate Admission into Full-time/Part-time Programmes 2021/2022

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into various Postgraduate programmes of the University. The postgraduate programmes are available in Diploma, Masters and Doctorate degree programmes for 2021/2022 academic session under Regular, Part-Time and Centre for Continuing Education (Weekend). The University also offer Postgraduate programmes in the Institute of Women, Gender and Development Studies (IWoGDS), Institute of Erosion Studies (IES) and Public Procurement Research Centre (PPRC).

  1. GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENT

All candidates must have credit passes at O’level including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry for all courses in Engineering. For other courses, candidates must possess five credits including English Language, Mathematics, Biology/Agricultural Science and two other relevant subjects at O’level.

2.0 OTHER NECESSARY INFORMATION

2.1 Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)

  1. All candidates must meet matriculation requirements including O’level credit passes in English language and mathematics and any other related subjects as required by the Department.
  2. Holders of HND with credit or above in its relevant areas. Professional qualifications such as ICAN, ACA, FIST, FIMT, FMILT, FNIST may also qualify for admission.
  3. Bachelor’s degree in the relevant discipline from FUTO or any other recognized universities with at least a third class honours
  4. A good Bachelor’s Degree with at least second class honours in other related disciplines.

3.0    MASTERS: M.SC, M.ENG, M.TECH AND MPH

Candidates applying for the Master of Science (M.Sc), Master of Engineering (M.Eng), Master of Technology (M.Tech) and Master of Public Health (MPH) programmes must possess any of the following in addition to O’Level Credit Passes in English Language and Mathematics and satisfying the basic matriculation requirements of the Department/Institute:

  1. A Bachelor’s degree with at least a Second Class Honours (Lower Division) qualification in the related area from FUTO or from any other recognized University.
  2. A Bachelors degree from a recognized University plus a PGD of not less than 2.50 CGPA on a 5-point scale and a 2.00 CGPA on a 4-point scale in the relevant area.

However, for M.Sc in Financial Management Technology and Management Technology candidates must possess O’Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any two subjects from Physics, Biology, Agricultural Science, and Geography.

3.1    M.SC IN OPTOMETRY

Candidates applying for the Master of Science (M.Sc) in Optometry programme must possess any of the following in addition to O’Level Credit Passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry.

  1. A Doctor of Optometry (O.D) degree with a minimum of 2.50 CGPA on a 5-point scale or 2.00 CGPA on a 4-point scale in the related area from FUTO or from any other recognized University.
  2. Completion of one year internship programme and NYSC programme.

3.2    M.SC IN GENDER STUDIES

Candidates applying for the Master of Science (M.Sc) in Gender Studies programme must possess any of the following:

  1. Higher National Diploma (HND) Upper Credit or above plus PGD in Gender Studies
  2. Bachelors Degree in the relevant discipline from FUTO or any other recognized University with at least a Third Class Honours plus a PGD in Gender Studies.
  3. A good Bachelors Degree with at least Second Class Honours in other related disciplines.

4.0    O’LEVEL REQUIREMENT FOR GENDER STUDIES

O’level credit passes in English Language and Mathematics in addition to any other three subjects as following:

  1. Gender and Development Studies/Entrepreneurship (Economics, Government or History, Commerce, Geography).
  2. Gender and Science/Global Health (Chemistry, Biology, Physics)
  3. Gender and Technology (Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Agricultural Science).
  4. Gender and Agricultural Technology (Chemistry, Agricultural Science or Biology and Food Nutrition or Home Economics).

5.0    MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (MBA)

Candidates applying for the Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme must possess any of the following in addition to O’Level Credit Passes in English and Mathematics and satisfying the basic matriculation requirements of the Department:

  1. A good Honours Degree with at least a Second Class Honours (Lower Division) in the area of Science, Technology, Engineering and Management Technology from FUTO or from any other recognized University.
  2. Candidates with Bachelors degree from a recognized University with at least a third class plus a Postgraduate Diploma.
  3. Higher National Diploma (HND) lower credit or above plus a Postgraduate Diploma in relevant field may apply for the MBA programme.
  4. A Bachelors degree in other fields plus a PGD in a relevant field.

However, for MBA in Financial Management Technology and Management Technology, candidates must possess O’Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any two subjects from Physics, Agricultural Science, and Geography.

6.0    DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (Ph.D)

Candidates applying for the Ph.D progrmame must possess any of the following in addition to O’Level Credit Passes in English and Mathematics and satisfying the basic matriculation requirements of the Department/Institute:

  1. A Master’s degree with a CGPA of 3.50 on a 5.00 point scale or 2.80 on a 4.00 point scale or its equivalent in the relevant areas from FUTO or any recognized University.
  2. Any other qualification as the University Senate may from time to time recognize/approve.

NOTE: Candidates with Bachelor or Master’s degree in Education (B.Ed and M.Ed) need not apply.

A.      METHOD OF APPLICATION

          Candidates are advised to complete the application forms online through  www.futo.edu.nd as from 15th October, 2021.

Applicants are expected to submit their application forms online together with the scanned copies of their credentials.

  1. Ensure that the referee’s email address supplied is valid as a referee form link would be sent to your referee for completion online.
  2. Please note that only valid email address and phone number are used as further correspondences will through these channels. 
  3. print out a copy of the acknowledgement sleep when the form is  complete. Also, an acknowledgement will be sent to the email address you provided while filling the form. Therefore make sure you provide a valid personal email address.

The Benue State University Admission into Postgraduate Programmes 2020/2021 academic session.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission to Postgraduate programmes leading to the award of Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters and Doctor of Philosophy degrees of the Benue State University for the 2020/2021 academic session.

Benue State University Admission into Postgraduate Requirements

Applicants must in the first instance, meet the relevant “O” Level requirements for award of
Bachelor’s degree of the Benue State University:
(a) A credit in English Language is required for all courses;

(b) A credit pass in Mathematics is required for all Sciences, Social Sciences as well as
courses in Management Sciences, Environmental Sciences and Educational Management;
(c) A Pass in Mathematics is required for all non-Science Education Courses;
(d) “O” Level credit Pass in Economics is required for all Management Science courses
and Economics;
(e) A credit pass in “O” Level Literature in English is required for programmes in the
Departments of English, Languages & Linguistics, Theatre Arts and Law, while a Pass
in Literature in English is required for Language Education programme;
(f) IJMB “O” Level credit Pass in Mathematics and English Language are acceptable in
lieu of credit pass at SSC or GCE “O” Level;
(g) NCE English major is acceptable in lieu of “O” Level Literature in English;
(h) NCE Use of English is acceptable in lieu of “O” Level credit pass in SSC or GCE “O”
Level English.
(i) Psychology requires at least a Pass in Biology or Health Science;
(j) In all cases, “A” Level passes supercede “O” Level passes.

Method of Application
Applications are available only on the online platform. Applicants are to visit the Benue State
University website www.bsum.edu.ng (under applications on Benue State University Portal section) click on Postgraduate and complete some pre-registration information and submit. Once submitted, an Application number will be generated. Print a copy of the pre-registration form. Applicants would then proceed to the designated Banks (Fidelity, First, Zenith, Sterling, Diamond) with the printed copy of pre-registration form and pay a non-refundable application fee using the generated Application number. After payment, applicants would be expected to re-visit the Benue State University Portal under Application and click on Postgraduate to complete the Application Form and submit.

Applicants should print in duplicate the hard copy of the completed form, attach all relevant photocopies of their credentials then submit to the Postgraduate School.
Applicants are to ensure that the on-line reference forms are completed by the three referees. They are to note that applications without relevant documents uploaded will not be considered. Later purchase of the Form which commences 30 days after the date of the advert shall attract an additional fee.
Guidelines for filling application forms
Applicants should provide all information sought in the form. Applications with incomplete information shall be treated as void. Proposed course of study including area of specialization if any should be clearly stated. Applicants should ensure that their official transcripts of academic record are forwarded to the Postgraduate School by their former universities. Applications without official transcripts of academic record shall not be processed. A candidate can apply for admission to only one Degree/Diploma programme at any given time.
The application costs ten thousand Naira (N10,000).
Closing Date
Closing date of application is 30 days from the date of the advertisement after which the application shall attract additional fee.

2. There will be another mock examination on the 23rd of April, 2021 to enable all prospective students try out the online examination platform for the last time and get acquainted with the platform before the actual examination which comes up on the 29th of April, 2021.

Admission Requirements for the Programmes

1. All applicants for admission into Postgraduate programmes in Bayero University, Kano must possess the following:

i. NYSC discharge certificate, or

ii. Exemption/Exclusion certificate

2.M.Phil/Ph.D Degree Programme

A candidate who seeks admission into the degree of the Doctor of Philosophy Programme must hold an Academic Master’s Degree of Bayero University, Kano or any other recognised University and satisfy the conditions in (i) to (iv) of (3) below.  The CGPA of the Master’s Programme should be at least 3.50 on a scale of 0.00 to 5.00.  A Ph.D candidate who satisfies all admission requirements except the CGPA can be considered for admission into M.Phil/Ph.D provided the CGPA is at least 3.00.

3.Academic Master’s Degree Programme

A candidate seeking admission into the Academic Master’s Degree Programme must hold:

  1. A minimum of a good Second Class (Lower Division) Degree with a CGPA not below 2.75 on the scale of 0.00 to 5.00 of Bayero University, Kano or any other recognised University (provided the University matriculation requirement is satisfied) in the relevant area.
  1. A minimum of Third Class Degree plus a good Postgraduate Diploma at credit level from Bayero University, Kano or from any other recognised University (provided the University matriculation requirement is satisfied) in the relevant area.
  1. A Postgraduate Diploma with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 on a scale of 0.00 to 5.00 and an HND with Upper Credit from any recognised institution.
  1. Any other qualifications deemed by the Board of School of Postgraduate Studies and Senate to be equivalent to (i) and (ii) above.

4. Candidates for admission into MBF, MHE and MTM, should have:

  1. A minimum of a good Second Class Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Management, Economics, Banking and Finance from Bayero University, Kano or any other recognized University.
  2. A Degree or HND with a minimum of Lower Credit plus a Postgraduate    

Diploma with a minimum of Merit in the relevant areas from Bayero University, Kano or any other recognized University.

5. Candidates for admission into MRH should have a degree in Medicine, Nursing and Biological Sciences of Bayero University, Kano or any other recognised University.

6. Candidates for admission into MDS, MPPA, MEM, MCMP shall have:

a. A good Honours Degree with at least Second Class Lower in the relevant areas from Bayero University, Kano or any other recognized University.

b. A Degree or HND with a minimum of Lower Credit plus a Postgraduate Diploma with a minimum classification of Merit in the relevant areas from Bayero University, Kano

7. Candidates for admission into MBCL shall possess:

a. A minimum of a good Second Class Degree in Law or the Social Sciences from Bayero University, Kano or any other recognized University.

b. A Degree in Law or the Social Sciences plus a Postgraduate Diploma with minimum classification of Merit from Bayero University, Kano or any other recognized University.  

8. Candidates for admission into PGDBF, PGDHE, PGDPPA, PGDSPA, PGDCMPC, PGDMC, PGDDS, PGDE, PGDGC, PGDRTM, PGDHE, PGDDA and PGDIM shall possess a Degree in any discipline from BUK or any other recognized University or HND with a minimum classification of Lower Credit obtained from recognized Institutions.

9.   Candidates for admission into PGDEM, PGDLA and PGDSE, shall possess a Degree in Geography, Environmental Sciences, Agriculture and related disciplines or HND with a minimum of Lower Credit in the related disciplines.

10.   Candidates for admission into PGDAF shall hold a Degree in Accounting or related disciplines obtained from a recognized University or HND with a minimum classification of Lower Credit in Accounting or related disciplines obtained from recognized Institutions.

11. Candidates for admission into PGDHS should have at least a 3rd class Degree in Hausa single or combined honours or HND with a minimum of Lower Credit in the relevant areas obtained from recognized Institutions.

12.  Candidates for admission into PGDBS, PGDC and PGDIP shall have a Degree in the relevant Science subjects or HND with a minimum of Lower Credit in the relevant areas obtained from recognized Institutions.

13. Candidates for admission into PGDEE, PGDCE and PGDME shall have a Degree in the relevant Engineering areas or HND with a minimum of Lower Credit in the relevant engineering areas obtained from recognized institutions.

14. Candidates for admission into M.Sc in Public Health must;

a. Have MBBS or BDS degree of Bayero University, Kano or an equivalent Medical Degree from a recognised University.

b. Be registered with the Nigerian Medical and Dental Council and posses a current practicing license.

c. Have at least three years post qualification cognate experience in Medicine or any health related area at federal, state or local government area levels. Those employed in non-governmental organisations, engaged in occupational health services as well as those in the private sector are also eligible.

  1. There shall be an entry written examination, short listed candidates will then be interviewed to determine eligibility of the candidates.

15. Admission into MPH (Child and Adolescent Health), MPH (Occupational and Environmental Health), MPH (Health Promotion) streams is open to all holders of at least a Second Class Honours Degree (where classified) from Universities and other Institutions of Learning recognized by Bayero University Senate and possess either:

a) MBBS or BDS degree

b) Degree in Health and Allied Health disciplines such as Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Microbiology, Pharmacy, Optometry, Radiology, etc.

c) Degree in Social Sciences such as Sociology, Economics, Political Science; etc.

d) Degree in Environmental Sciences such as Geography; etc.

e) Degree in Applied Sciences like Biology, etc.

f) Graduates with Third Class degree and a merit in a health related Postgraduate Diploma.

g) Other disciplines classified as qualified by the departmental PG committee.

h) Candidates applying for admission into the MPH (Community Medicine) stream of the programme will be required to have MB;BS or BDS degrees from any University recognized by the Senate of Bayero University, Kano.

Duration of the MPH Programme

The duration of the course is minimum of two (2) semesters and maximum of three (3) Semesters.

16.Candidate for admission into Master’s in Infection Prevention and Control (MIPC) shall possess;

  1. B.Sc. Microbiology, B.Sc Biomedical Sciences, B.Sc Nursing, Medical Laboratory Sciences (BMLS), B.Sc. Biochemistry, MBBS, BDS, DVM as in the provisions of the Bayero University’s New General Regulations Governing Postgraduate Studies of January, 2016.
  2. Any other qualification deemed appropriate and approved by the Senate of Bayero University Kano for this purpose.

Duration of the MIPC Programme

The Programme shall run for a minimum of 2 semesters and a maximum of 4 semesters.

17. Candidate for admission into M.Sc Surgical must;

a) fulfil the matriculation requirements as stipulated by the MSc Surgical   

           Sciences programme and that of Bayero University, Kano.

b) Candidates with M.B.B.S, B.D.S, MD or their equivalent, from BUK or

           other recognised universities are also eligible provided that they have a  

           satisfactory level of performance in the desired area of studies.

Course Duration

The course shall be a full time programme of a minimum of four (4) semesters and a maximum of six (6) semesters. Students are required to register for at least 30 credit units of course work and 6 credit units for dissertation.

18. Candidates seeking admission into the M.Sc. Architecture programme should have either;

  1. Graduates of Bayero University Kano or other recognized institution or its equivalent who have obtained the approved Bachelor’s degree in architecture with at least a good second class (lower division) honors – A CGPA of not less than 2.75 on a 5-point scale
  2. A Post Graduate Diploma, at credit level, in addition to University degree (Third Class level, with minimum CGPA of 3.5 on a 5-point scale)
  3. A weighted average score average not less than 50% (where applicable) for graduates from recognised Universities.

A candidate must also satisfy all other conditions stipulated in the regulations of the Post Graduate School and Senate of Bayero University Kano.

19. Candidates for admission into the Master’s in Community Development Programme must possess:

  1. The minimum basic requirements of the Bayero University School of Postgraduate Studies
  2. A minimum of Bayero University Kano Degree or degree from any recognized university in any field (Education, Social Sciences, Humanities, Health Sciences, Technology) with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division
  3. A Postgraduate Diploma or its equivalent from any recognized university at Merit level in related fields in Education, Social Sciences, Humanities, Health Sciences, Technology

Course Duration

The Master’s in Community Development programme covers either 12 months (2 semesters) for full time candidates or 24 months (4 semesters) for part-time candidates.

Admission Requirements:

20. Applicants for the Master’s in Health Education programme are required to

      possesses the following:

a. A first degree or its equivalent in Physical and Health Education, Health Education, Public Health, Nursing, MBBS, Sciences and other Social Sciences from a recognized Higher Institution of Learning within or outside Nigeria, which is recognised relevant by the Bayero University, Kano.

b. A Postgraduate Diploma in Health Education, Public Health or any other related field with a minimum of merit from Bayero University, Kano and any other institutions recognised by the Bayero University, Kano.

Course Duration:

After registration, a candidate for professional Master’s in Health Education shall finish his/her course work and long essay in not less than two (2) semesters or more than four (4) semesters.

21. The following shall qualify for LL.M (ICTL) Degree admission:  

  1. Graduate of Bayero University or of other recognized Institutions who obtained the approved Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B) with a minimum of second class honours or its equivalent but must have earned a CGPA of not less than 2.75;
  2. In addition to (a) above, candidate must satisfy the University’s matriculation requirements for registration.

Course Duration

The programme shall be for a minimum of four semesters and maximum of six semesters.

22. A candidate seeking admission into Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) must hold:

  1. A minimum of Second Class Lower degree in a relevant area from Bayero University Kano or any recognized University.
  2. A good Postgraduate Diploma in a relevant area not below a classification of Merit from Bayero University Kano or any recognized University provided the conditions prescribed under the Postgraduate Diploma Programmes above are satisfied.
  3. A minimum Second Class Lower Division degree in a non-related area plus relevant experience in Social Work or relevant cognate experience.
  4. Any other qualifications deemed equivalent to (a), (b) or (c) above.

Course Duration

A minimum period of 2 semesters and a maximum period of 4 semesters for Master in Social Work (MSW) part time.

23. Candidates for admission into Postgraduate Diploma in Adult and Non Formal Education shall satisfy any of the following requirements:

  1. Holders of a Bachelors Degree of Bayero University and other approved Universities with a minimum of a third class honours, in any acceptable discipline.
  2. Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) with a minimum of a Merit pass and relevant working experience.
  3. Matured candidates holding the Higher Diploma (HD) in Community Development, Adult Education, Social Development/Welfare, Local Government Studies, Agriculture, post-qualification public service experience.  Such candidates should be prepared for an eligibility Interview.
  4. Any other professional qualification considered suitable by the Department subject to the approval of the Faculty of Education and Postgraduate School Boards.

      Course Duration

The duration of the programme is twelve (12) Calendar months for full-time candidates and 24 months for part-time candidates, meaning two (2) semesters for full-time candidates and four (4) semesters for part-time candidates. The programme would consist of normal class lectures, seminars, fieldwork and tutorials.

24. Candidate for admission into Postgraduate Diploma in Biotechnology should have a minimum of third class degree in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biological sciences, Plant Biology, Zoology, MBBS, Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacy, Medical and Allied Health Sciences and Agricultural related disciplines. Equivalent qualifications in other relevant areas would also be considered.

Course Duration

The course shall run for a minimum of two (2) semesters and maximum of four (4) semesters

25. Admission into the Postgraduate Diploma in Human Physiology is open to graduates of life science courses with a minimum of third class degree from Bayero University or other recognized institutions, Higher National Diploma (HND), with at least lower credit in relevant field. Equivalent qualifications in other relevant areas may be considered.

Course Duration

The course shall run for a minimum of two (2) semesters and maximum of four (4) semesters

26.Candidates for admission into M.Sc Nursing must satisfy;

  (i) the University minimum requirement into undergraduate programme

(ii) A BNSC degree of Bayero University, Kano or any other recognised University (provided the University matriculation requirement is satisfied in the relevant area)

(iii) A BNSC degree of the Universities running classified programme with a minimum CGPA of at least 2.75 on a scale of (0.00-5.00)

(iv) A PGDN of Bayero University, Kano or any other recognised University with a minimum CGPA of 3.00.

27. Candidate for admission into Postgraduate Diploma in Anatomical Sciences must satisfy the following requirements:

Prospective applicants must possess Bachelor degree in Anatomy or Physiology (minimum of third class degree from Bayero University, Kano or any other recognized and accredited institution); or

Possess Bachelor degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Radiography, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physiotherapy, Nursing, Optometry (minimum of third class degree from Bayero University, Kano or any other recognized and accredited institution); or

Possess Bachelor degree in Science-based field such as: Bachelor degree in Biological Sciences, Microbiology, Zoology, Plant Science, Biochemistry, Animal Science (with minimum of third class degree from Bayero University, Kano or any other recognized and accredited institution) or

HND Medical Laboratory Science (with minimum of Lower Credit) from any recognized and accredited institution.

Candidates must also meet the “O” level requirements of five credits in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

NB: All candidates for admission into Ph.D, M.Phil, M.A, M.Ed, M.Sc, M.Eng

and LLM Programmes must provide records of their Academic Transcripts.

Login using FULL NAME OF THE APPLICANT and select “Applying for a Postgraduate Programme”.  A username and password will be generated for you.  Please take careful note of them, as you need them for subsequent steps of the application process.

STEP 2 Login to your account and generate/print your BUK Personalised Payment Form (BUKPPF). A non-refundable application fee of N12,000 (Twelve Thousand Naira Only) is reflected on applicant’s BUKPPF, to be paid using Remita e-Payments and e-Collection platform (www.remita.net). Applicants must make sure that they entered ALL the information of the BUKPPF EXACTLY. Applicants must also ensure that all of the following are captured exactly as they are written on the BUKPPF:
