NYSC Notice to 2020 Batch A Corps Members on Biometric Monthly Clearance.

Management of the National Youth Service Corps hereby conveys to all Corps Members that the suspension of the biometric monthly clearance still stands, and shall remain in force for the months of June and July, in keeping with the rules of social/physical distancing; and avoidance of crowd.

Accordingly, payment of stipends for the foregoing months shall be effected without giving consideration to biometric clearance.

Area Directors, State/FCT Coordinators had been notified of this directive for strict compliance.

Corps Members are once again advised to ensure good personal hygiene, social distancing, avoidance of crowd, use of hand sanitisers and face masks in order to guard against falling victim to the virus.

Management is not oblivious of the agitations by the 2020 Batch “A” Stream One Corps Members who want to know when they will be recalled to the Orientation camps, which is expected; likewise the 2020 Batch “A” Stream Two Prospective Corps Members who are desirous of knowing when they shall be moving into the camps for Orientation Course.

The questions and many others shall be addressed as soon as the interstate lockdown is lifted and Government gives a nod for the Scheme and other institutions to resume full activities.

NYSC Exemption Certificate Collection Procedure

National Youth Services Corps NYSC exemption certificate is issued by Nigerian law to candidates who are unable to participate in the NYSC programs.

In accordance with the National Youth Service Corps Decree 1993 section 2 subsection (1) it is stipulated that;

“With effect from 1st August, 1985, a person shall NOT be called upon to serve in the service corps if, at the date of graduation or obtaining his diploma or other professional qualification” :

  1. He is over the age of thirty (30) years
  2. He has served in the Armed Forces of the Federation or the Nigeria Police Force for a period of more than nine months; or
  3. He is a member of staff of any of the following:
    1. The Nigerian Security Organization or
    2. The State Security Service, or
    3. The National Intelligence Agency or
    4. The Defence Intelligence Service
  4. He has been conferred with any National Honour.

Eligibility for NYSC Exemption Certificate Collection

Nigerian Graduates either home or oversea trained who have the stipulated qualification of (B.SC, B.A or HND) from approved or accredited Institution by (NUC, NTBE or NCCE) are eligible for Exemption Certificate however while foreign trained graduates must submit their Certificates at the Mobilization Department for Evaluation.

Procedure for Exemption Certificate Collection

For Home Trained Graduates

  1. The tertiary institutions attended. The School submits the master list of their graduates alongside with the Senate approved result to NYSC.
  2. A print-out is processed by NYSC classifying those to be called up for service and those to be exempted. This print-out is sent back to the Institutions for verifications and corrections after which they are returned to NYSC as an agreed/corrected document.
  3. With the print-out, the Certificates of Exemption are produced, documented and sent back to the Institutions for issuance to the appropriate persons.
  4. Please note: Collection of Certificate of Exemption for home trained graduates is only done in the Institution of graduation and not in NYSC office.




For Foreign Trained Graduates

  1. The process begins with the evaluation of credentials and other related documents i.e. International passport.
  2. After the evaluation of credentials the foreign trained graduate is then registered and this is physically done at the NYSC directorate headquarters, Abuja. It is at the point of registration that the classification of who to be called-up or who to be exempted; is determined.
  3. Certificates of Exemption are therefore produced for those exempted from service.
  4. Such Certificates of Exemption for foreign graduates are to be collected at the NYSC directorate headquarters at the stipulated time communicated.
  5. Please note:
    1. Collection of Certificate of Exemption is grouped under the three batches of the service year, depending on the date of registration. This equally would be communicated to exempted graduates at the point of registration.
    2. Collection of Certificate of Exemption is strictly with identification such as International passport and the bearer MUST BE PHYSICALLY PRESENT.

Covid-19: Corps Members NYSC partner NGO to offer free online teaching for Students

As a result of this Covid-19 pandemic lock-down, the corps member take a huge initiative by partnering with a NGO to teach secondary school student on online platform.

The statement read,

“The NYSC Educating Nigerian Girls in New Enterprise (ENGINE) Community Development Service (CDS) Group has partnered with the NYSC Gender Vanguard CDS Group and a reputable Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) to make education accessible to all secondary school students in Nigeria as a response to the Covid-19 Lockdown which has made it unable for these students to resume studies.

The partnership has resulted in the setting up of online classes by Corps Members and creation of tailored courses for each class in line with the Federal Ministry of Education approved scheme of work. This will keep the students active and ensure that they ease back into school seamlessly when the lockdown is called off.

This initiative has also gone a step further to create Skills Acquisition Courses In addition to their basic curriculum incorporating life skills, digital skills and entrepreneurship classes”.

IMPORTANT UPDATE ON NYSC CALL-UP LETTER

Any person who fails to report for service in the service corps as directed in the Call-up Letter and/or refuses to make himself available for service in the service corps shall be prosecuted in line with the provisions of Section 13 sub-section 19(a)and (b) of the NYSC Act, Cap. N84, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004

Also, any person who is not eligible to participate in the service corps or has been duly issued with a Certificate of National Service or Certificate of Exemption but so participates or attempts to so participate shall be prosecuted in line with Section 13 sub-section 2(a) and (b) of the NYSC Act, Cap, N84, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004
